How to Stitch a Simple Raw-Edge Applique (Video)

This is the second of two tutorials to go with my PDF pattern, the Pack-it-Up Shopper. See the first here.

I love to see proper free-machine embroidery! There are some amazing videos on YouTube, of quilters and embroiderers just doing their thing, and making amazing sewn art. Naturally, this tutorial is a hacked version of that skill, using the sewing machine with the tension on, and creating the look with patience and by lifting and lowering the foot a lot. I really mean it when I say a lot! Once you get into the swing of things, it is a quick process, and looks great when finished.

You may notice that in the video I don’t speak! I had the most awful cold when I was filming, and I sounded a bit like Darth Vader! I hope the silent movie-style cards did the same job as the chattering usually does.

If anyone is interested, I was using Heat’n’Bond fusible web, although I also have Bondaweb in my drawer. I used a Frixion heat-erasable pen to mark the fabrics, although I also sometimes use a chalk pencil (the Frixion shows up better on camera). The fabrics are part of Dashwood’s Wild collection, and I got them from Sew Fabulous Fabrics.

Happy Sewing!
