How to sew the lining of the Wet’n’Dry Washbag (video)
This video tutorial is to help you sew my PDF pattern, the Wet’n’Dry Washbag.
The Wet’n’Dry Washbag is a boxy pouch with four zips. Boxy pouches are generally quite straightforward, but this one has two separate lining compartments, meaning that there are some small seams to work with, as well as having to bend the zipper. You might feel like you need an extra pair of hands!
In this video, I talk you through step one from the pattern, then I get out my sewing machine and stitch step two so that you can see in greater detail what you need to do. Expect to hear a lot of chit-chat, and probably some waffle too (sorry!), but at the end you will be able to carry on and complete the washbag.
When I sew the linings, you see me using a 1/4” zipper foot, similar to this one (not an affiliate link). I use mine a lot! You do need to change your needle position to use it, but it is otherwise just a simple, clip-on foot.
You may also notice that I didn’t use any batting or interfacing this time, as I was using a heavy waterproof canvas, which doesn’t need anything inside as support. The other two versions from the video both use quilting-weight cotton, which does need the extra layers. This pattern suits thinner or thicker weights of fabric, and would also be great in cork or faux leather.
If you make a Wet’n’Dry Washbag, let me know in the comments. I would love to see how yours looks!
Happy Sewing!
